This means:

✅ You don’t need to spend hours and money maintaining your stack

✅ Your reports, dashboards, and AI all show the same numbers and analysis

✅ Everything becomes shared across the entire organization instead of being stuck in one person’s set up - connections, skills, data definitions agents, conversations

The playbooks are what clients pay you for: how you read the numbers, what you flag and what you tell them to do next. A data lead at a large US media agency called a dashboard “the baseline of adding value.” The value is in what you do with the analysis. That’s the part to keep in-house, whether you build it, prompt it or put it in an agent.

I’m not making this split up either. 11 of the 87 agencies told us they were going hybrid, and 10 of them split it the same way: buy what the client sees, build what stays inside the agency.

On the calls, that looked like:

Buy the pipes, keep the data. A head of technology at a UK agency was “looking at a hybrid, which would be to bring the data into our own warehouses.”

Build the internal tools, buy the client reporting. An exec at a US agency with property-management clients vibe-codes internal tools for the exec team, but was very clear: “I’m not trying to build a reporting system.”

Build the warehouse, keep client reporting on a platform. A US automotive agency spent a year building its own data warehouse, but keeps a platform for everything its external clients see.

The exception is the builders from the last section. If you have developers on staff, you can certainly build the entire thing. But just know that you’ll also be responsible for the maintenance, which is much more difficult than the initial build.

And if your team already lives in Claude, the verdict doesn’t change. You don’t have to build the data layer to use Claude on client data. Buy the data layer and point Claude at it.

That’s the split we built Whatagraph around. The Data Hub handles the connectors and gives you clean, blended data. You own the playbooks on top, with your own custom AI agents, or by connecting Claude, ChatGPT or any MCP-compatible tool to the same data through our MCP server.

Final thoughts

I went into these calls expecting a clear winner (or to try to convince you to buy, just kidding). There wasn’t one, but there was a pattern: buy the data layer, own the parts that make your agency yours.

If you want to hear it straight from agency owners, two of them go deeper in our online event - sign up here.

And if you want to see what it looks like to have a governed data foundation, reporting, and AI agents all in one, get a demo.
",[651,676,701,724,747,770
3321,"zw7bbf08q4isw9s35devcg8t","client-reporting-tools","I Tested the 7 Best Marketing Agency Reporting Tools [Updated Oct 2026]
16128,"9 best client reporting tools for agencies.png","Client Reporting Tools - Three phone screen templates on purple background
"https://s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/whatagraph.com/thumbnail_9_best_client_reporting_tools_for_agencies_4e0a791bd7.png","thumbnail_9_best_client_reporting_tools_for_agencies_4e0a791bd7","thumbnail_9 best client reporting tools for agencies.png",27.38,"9_best_client_reporting_tools_for_agencies_4e0a791bd7",1067.62,"https://s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/whatagraph.com/9_best_client_reporting_tools_for_agencies_4e0a791bd7.png","2025-12-29T08:33:13.776Z","2025-12-29T08:33:15.943Z","p9wphtuu2z11vu3oivhi4i2t
"utbfuucbsdgdykwecb9aibad","agency-guides","Agency guides
3153,"xd0qrzjgf5fade4nrsr82z32","whatagraph-integrations","Whatagraph Integrations: Everything You Need to Know
16117,"Whatagraph Integrations.png","Whatagraph Integrations - An array of app logos on a pink background.
"https://s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/whatagraph.com/thumbnail_Marketing_analytics_and_reporting_A_Complete_Guide_to_Whatagraph_Integration_d5aed6cceb.png","thumbnail_Marketing_analytics_and_reporting_A_Complete_Guide_to_Whatagraph_Integration_d5aed6cceb","thumbnail_Marketing analytics & reporting _ A Complete Guide to Whatagraph Integration.png",51.7,"Marketing_analytics_and_reporting_A_Complete_Guide_to_Whatagraph_Integration_d5aed6cceb",1462.33,"https://s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/whatagraph.com/Marketing_analytics_and_reporting_A_Complete_Guide_to_Whatagraph_Integration_d5aed6cceb.png","2025-12-29T08:13:03.177Z","2025-12-29T08:23:01.501Z","ch89n76g9zviu4ahv7ae82br
"v3mgd8e186b1welglg981eu6","marketing-analytics-and-reporting","Marketing analytics & reporting
3324,"l0g23brps4fue8wn587d7x9l","ai-marketing-agents","We tested the top 8 AI marketing agents for reporting [2026]
17857,"AI marketing agents.jpg
"https://s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/whatagraph.com/thumbnail_AI_marketing_agents_5e70ac5a8e.jpg","544a2fea827653e71cc568d97a2c3b07","thumbnail_AI_marketing_agents_5e70ac5a8e","thumbnail_AI marketing agents.jpg",6.2,137,6197,"AI_marketing_agents_5e70ac5a8e",2058.05,"https://s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/whatagraph.com/AI_marketing_agents_5e70ac5a8e.jpg","2026-10-10T13:57:57.908Z","qzn1bglsagv8fjag6o8ebskc
3376,"ic4ihqc7u2g5k66iilgk4azu","agentic-analytics","What is agentic analytics?
